Videogames + Orchestra = Awesome

Things We Like | 4 smashing comments

Audio in games has come a long way from Pac-Man’s famous ‘wakka wakka’.  Many games now feature fully scored soundtracks, created by some of the world’s most famous composers and played by leading orchestras from around the world.

So what happens when you smash some of the most popular music from videogames together with a symphony orchestra and put two hyperactive game composers in charge?

You get Videogames Live, that’s what.

If you haven’t come across Videogames Live before, then you really should check out some of the previous concerts.

Actually, why not go one better? Videogames Live is in fact coming to Denki’s home city of Dundee – as the climax to the NEoN festival in November.  Mark your calendars for 6.30pm on Sunday November the 15th, then run, RUN to the box office and get your tickets.

VGL creators Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, will be conducting and performing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.  While they tend to vary the line-up of music and games featured, they normally feature titles including Mario, Halo, World Of Warcraft, Civilisation, Space Invaders (my personal favourite), Final Fantasy and Sonic, amongst many (many) others.

Several Denkians have been to previous shows – some of the more adventurous travelling great distances just to attend the concert in strange and foreign lands.  The reviews and summaries have never ever been any less than ‘amazing’, ‘wonderful’ and ’smashing, thanks’.

If you’re anywhere near Dundee.  If you’re even vaguely interested in gaming, then you owe it to yourself to head along and check it all out.  It’s an experience in every sense of the word.

They came here (Lisbon) last christmas!
Had the chance to see the show and didn’t regret it. And by the way, if you have the cash, I highly recommend a nifty tabletop arcade machine made by them with many, MANY arcade classics and hits! And not only old school stuff! It’s an excellent piece of hardware (which I sadly didn’t purchase since I just had bought a top of the line cintiq)…

Pricy though eh, at £35 / £50

It’s worth it… Trust me :)

They put up quite a DJ/VJ show!

Totally agree that it’s worth the money. The last time I saw them you could see that every penny of the ticket price had been spent making a great show.

It’s rare that I go to gigs and feel I got my money’s worth… but VGL was definitely one of them.
