Why Don’t You?

Things We Like | 2 zarjaz comments

The first of a new regular column for the blog, in which your favourite Denkians outline the things in the media which have been capturing their attention and stopping them from going outside and doing something more healthy instead.

This week we have been mostly consuming:

Watching

  • Brian: Peep Show, the new series is the best one yet (thus far). The Thick Of It, Series One – psyching myself up for the new season ‘coming soon’.  Is it wrong that I want to be Malcolm Tucker? Helvetica – Font porn.  I bought the DVD after watching it at the cinema.  I am not ashamed, though think I perhaps should be…
  • David: Peep Show too, and the fact that it’s followed by the excellent The I.T. Crowd makes life that much better.

Listening

  • Brian: It’s been retro week at work.  While writing and scribing, it’s been Sky Cries Mary, Slowdive, New Model Army and Brian Jonestown Massacre.
  • David: Actually listening to some recent purchases: Metric, Eels and Fanfarlo.

Reading

  • Brian: Finally getting a chance to get my teeth into The Death Of Bunny Munroe – Nick Cave’s new book.  I’m also about halfway through Alan Campbell’s God Of Clocks (book three of the Deepgate Codex).  So far, so astonishing.  I’m also re-reading Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson and The Incredible Adam Spark by Alan Bissett – because I found them unexpectedly and they deserve a re-read.
  • David: Catching up on Flat Earth News by Nick Davies, and Quite Ugly One Morning by Christopher Brookmyre.

Playing

  • Brian: Duke Nukem (downloaded via Good Old Games), Age Of Mythology, Fallout 3 (finally) – all on PC.  Revisiting Metroid Prime on Gamecube and Body Harvest on N64, as my console choice is currently ‘limited’.
  • David: Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360) occupies most of my playing time at the moment, along with Orbital on iPhone.

Ryan says:

If you fella’s get time, go see Gilliams newest ‘The imaginarium of Dr.Parnassus’ completley bizarre and brilliant. If you have extra time, always take the time to revisit ‘The adventures of Baron Munchausen’. Brilliant.

Brian says:

I am the biggest Gilliam fan, ever! Love Munchausen (and Brazil and Time Bandits, which of course form a loose ‘trilogy’ of sorts). I’m saving Imaginarium for a point in the near future when I can take me time and enjoy it. Extremely jealous you’ve already seen it. So, SHHH! Any spoilers and I be cross.
