Description
Denki is an award-winning, artisan video game maker. We make games for gamers who don't have time to play games anymore.History
Early historyDenki was born in March 2000, though the planning for it had been ongoing for about nine months prior to that! It was started for a myriad of reasons; some rational, others entirely emotional, but among the most important were: a dissatisfaction with the inefficiencies of game development methods at that time; a frustration that so much effort was being wasted on getting games finished rather than making them great; a realisation that the company we were working for intended to make products bigger and use bigger teams for even longer, while we wanted to focus on faster development of smaller products with smaller teams; and a longing to get back to the original pioneering spirit of the early days of game development when it felt more like opening up new frontiers than ploughing fields.
Creative Assembly LinesIn 2001, Denki released the critically acclaimed Denki Blocks! The game attracted over one million players in its opening six months. Since then, Denki has gone on to create over 200 individual games in the next 12 years, establishing a reputation for creativity and tight, efficient development and picking up a number of industry awards along the way.
War of WordsDenki's most definitive statement came in 2011 with the release of Quarrel, a very Denki cocktail of Scrabble and Risk. Released on both iOS and Xbox LIVE Arcade, Quarrel won Best Game at the BAFTA Scotland awards and was nominated for "Best Handheld Game" at the Interactive BAFTA Awards.
Gaming for the Postcore GenerationDenki is currently working with Turbulenz, the bleeding edge HTML5 game engine, to create console-like arcade experiences directly in the browser. The first game from this partnership, Save the Day, was released in November 2012.
