Production Specialist? Say What?

Although some people here at Denki have somewhat obscure job titles (Media Monkey, for example, or Number One Fan, say), some people have titles that are seemingly more descriptive. The Production Specialist, is one of those.

Of course, it should be obvious that they literally specialise in production, and you might be thinking that this sounds like the Producer role used by so many games companies. In my experience though, that role means different things to different people, and bears little to no resemblance from that role in the film or TV world. So, we typically have to clarify what we mean by that title.

From our point of view, the Production Specialist role is akin to that of the Assistant Director:

An assistant director (AD) is a person who helps the filmmaker in the making of a movie or television show. The duties of an AD include setting the shooting schedule, tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking the arrival of cast and crew, maintaining order on the set, rehearsing cast, and directing extras.

So, the Production Specialist is responsible for making the right things happen, at the right times, meaning that we do eventually finish the projects we start.

Hope that helps clarify things for anyone who was wondering! And no, we’re not looking to hire for that role at the moment. 🙂
