What’s the best word you can make from the letters A-L-H-G-N-U-I-G?

If you said “laughing”, then you’ll be a dangerously good player of Quarrel.  If you said “hug”, well… never fear, you might still be dangerously good too!

The essence of the game is making high-scoring words, but what’s the use of making high scoring words if they don’t help you dominate an island?  As luck would have it, that’s exactly what you do in Quarrel: lead your tribe of Quarrellers to vocabulary victory!

Quarrel uses a fantastically detailed dictionary (provided by the legendary word-wizards at HarperCollins no less), to ensure only “real” words are good enough, and also to let you know what those words mean.  That way you never have to come up with some dodgy explanation for the words you guessed at in a blind panic (such as “voe” or “za“).

We’ve already started showing Quarrel to our friends from the press.  You can read some initial impressions from Square Go, the Guardian Games Blog and Offworld. Quarrel’s also been picked as one to watch by Edge (p24, Edge 201), BoingBoing, Eurogamer and Zmogo, which makes us very pleased.

We’ve also shown off the game’s board game roots, created a whole new latin music soundtrack, taken the game out in public and even adopted the word ‘quarrel’ itself.

Quarrel is set to be released on Xbox Live Arcade in early 2010, and we guarantee it’ll be worth the wait.
